This post is designed to help you hone your raiding skills, so get ready to level up your game!

5 Fundamental Drills to Improve Your Raiding Prowess

Raiding is the heart of Kabaddi. It demands speed, agility, and strategy. Mastering these skills takes dedication, and these drills will help you on your path to becoming a top raider.

1. The Quick-Step Drill

This drill focuses on explosive starts and quick changes in direction. Start in a low crouch position, then burst forward, taking 5-7 quick steps before changing direction suddenly. Repeat this drill, focusing on speed and agility.

2. The Touch-and-Go Drill

This drill simulates the actual act of raiding. Set up cones or markers representing opponents. Practice quickly touching each cone, mimicking the touch required to earn a point. Focus on your speed, accuracy and making evasive maneuvers.

3. The Ankle-Weaving Drill

Improve your ability to evade defenders with the ankle-weaving drill. With a partner, practice weaving your feet around your partner’s ankles at speed while maintaining balance and control. The partner should gently resist but not impede your progress. This develops incredible footwork and balance.

4. The Endurance Raid Drill

Kabaddi requires stamina. This drill builds endurance by having you perform a full raid repeatedly (e.g., running, dodging cones, touching them, returning). Gradually increase the number of repetitions and the complexity of your maneuvers.

5. The Breath Control Drill

Maintaining your breath is crucial during raids. Practice holding your breath while performing short bursts of intense activity, followed by controlled breathing. This improves your lung capacity and aids in stamina during prolonged raids.
